Never had this happen to me...the pad material separated from the backing plate on the way home from a grocery run. The pads were Hawk HP Plus with two track days on them.

Weird. I hear good things about the hawks.

I ran a set of Hawk HP+ once, but I was not a fan of the noise and dust. Was much happier with EBC RedStuff.

Second on the dust. I’ve only had mine on a few weeks and my front wheels are turning gunmetal.

I just put a set of HP+s on last month. When I read this post:

You should see how my ProjectMu Club Racer pads dusted! I forgot the color of my wheels, I was genuinely surprised when I washed them and remembered how they originally looked. haha

Yea, they’ve been great, but this was very weird. I’ll probably run them again though.

Yeah, seems to be a racing pad thing in general. It’s my first time with a set. Even my rears are streets (Hawk HPS) and barely dust at all. I went with the HP+ because King Motorsports was out of front Prelude HPS’s. I was interested in trying a set of racing pads anyway and I wasn’t about to pay $300 for a pair of Mugen pads.

Definitely not the first time it’s happened, I’ve seen it on several cars. First time I’ve seen it on performance pads though. I bet they’d replace them for you, contact Hawk.

Any rotor damage from that?
I’m sure the mfr will replace them free of charge.

Contact the manufacturer for sure!

$300 is insane! My Project Mu Club Racers were ~$200 and more than aggressive enough for most serious track cars.

Yeah, Mugen anything is usually overpriced. I still want their suspension kit for my car, though.

I will always support spending good money on proper suspension.

I wonder if there was a manufacturing defect with that pad.

It’s worth the cost, because a. the ride height and spring rate are exactly what I want without having to deal with the guessing game of coilovers, b. weight slightly less than stock suspension, and we Prelude guys are always looking for ways to lose weight, and c. bragging rights.

No damage, I was literally a block from home when it separated so that helped, no doubt. Hawk has responsive to the issue so far!

I’ve contacted Hawk and sent them pictures so hopefully they come through.
